A silver bean has been cast from a humble broad bean seed to create a gorgeous piece of jewellery
Broad beans are among the most ancient plants to have ever been cultivated and are considered to have been an essential part of a Mediterranean diet since 6,000 BC. There’s a popular myth that the ancient Greek mathematician Pythagoras died being pursued into a bean field. He felt unable to trample on any of the beans as he thought that the souls of man transformed into beans after death.
People in some cultures carry a bean for good luck; while others believe you will never be without the essentials of life if you have one about your person. This seemed to us a lovely idea, so we added the humble Broad Bean, or Fava Bean as it’s also known, to our Botanical Collection. The silver beans that we make have been cast from actual broad beans grown by Vicky Platt in her own vegetable garden. Cast in solid silver, their plump, tactile nature creates the most pleasing kind of touchstone.
We hope that your silver bean brings you all the luck in the world!
